Rich Tafel
As President of RLT Strategies, Rich Tafel has dedicated himself to providing strategic coaching and consulting to individuals on their career path and to organizations seeking to make this world a better place. Over the past six years, he has provided strategic coaching to over sixty world changing leaders and some of our nation’s leading social entrepreneurs.
His client's projects have brought him to Africa and Latin America, though the bulk of his work is in the United States.
His ideal career coaching clients are people who are serious about aligning their personal values with their strengths to find a way to be of service and useful to others.
Before attending Harvard Divinity School, Rich graduated from East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania with honors in 1984 with a B.A. in Philosophy and Speech Communications. Rich trained as an executive coach through Franklin Covey and was certified through the International Coaching Federation. He is also a graduate of the Prince of Wales Business and the Environment Programme, Cambridge University.
Tafel graduated from the Harvard Divinity School in 1987, earning a Master of Divinity degree. Rich is the strategist for the Swedenborgian Church of North America. From August 1987 through May 1993 Tafel served as Assistant to the Minister for Special Projects in the Memorial Church at Harvard University.
Experience
Rich Tafel is graduate of the Franklin Covey Coach training program (2002) and is one of the 4,600 coaches certified world-wide through the International Coaching Federation. He brings a unique mix of coaching, consulting and strategic thinking to his client's work.
In his portfolio of achievements, Rich has been the strategy leader in the education reform movement as strategic consultant to College Summit. In the past five years, Rich has been able to help the education reform organizations gain millions in new funds, obtain passage of crucial legislation and offer strategic planning and coaching. Tafel provided strategic planning to a AIDS Responsibility Project, USAID and Congressional staff visit to Latin America leading to a three year project combating stigma and discrimination for people living with AIDS where he helped train Mexican nonprofit to work with corporations. From 1991 to 1993, Rich served as the Director of the Adolescent Health Program for the state of Massachusetts Department of Public Health supporting the state's school based and community based programs.
In 1991, gay Republicans organizations were seeking to create a national network and national office and elected Rich as their President to lobby the Republican Party on gay and AIDS issues. His appearances on Nightline, Larry King Live and The Today Show launched Rich into the national spot light as the nation's spokesman for gay Republicans.
In the 1993, Rich founded Log Cabin Republicans in Washington DC turning it into a political household name with chapters throughout the United States.
He also created a nonprofit think tank Liberty Education Forum to offer new ideas to the challenges facing the GLBT community. In his decade of leadership, Rich raised millions of dollars and cultivated two boards.
In 1999, Simon and Schuster published Rich's book, "Party Crasher, A Gay Republican Challenges Politics as Usual" where he laid out an inclusive strategy for the Republican Party. The United States Junior Chamber of Commerce recognized Rich for his civil rights leadership as one of their Ten Outstanding Young Americans in 2000.
